Almanac Quilt

Finished Size 81" x 90"

A record of wind, rain and temperature.

My original design for a temperature quilt. Each umbrellla represents one week of the year. The top of the umbrella is the high temperature each day and the lower section is the low temperature for the day. In each block, the raindrops indicate how many days that week it rained. The size of the raindrop increases with the amount of rain. A puddle means there was more than 1 inch of rain. The tilt of the umbrella reflects the average weekly wind speed. The more the umbrella is tilted the higher the wind speed. Around the edges are hand embroidered weather symbols and the corners serve as a "key" to aid in reading the chart.
